The Orange Weather Warnings are still in effect for Upper Hutt as of 3AM this morning. The severe wind and rain have eased, but we are now moving into the clean-up and recovery phase.
What this means for our Upper Hutt residents:
- The worst of the weather is over, and conditions have stabilised. Thank you for following safety advice and looking out for one another.
- Council teams are out assessing damage and clearing fallen trees, debris, and hazards in public spaces and roads. Please keep clear of these areas as your safety continues to be our priority.
- Please continue to be cautious around trees, parks, and waterways and watch for loose debris on roads and footpaths.
- Now is a great time to check on neighbours, especially those who are elderly, live alone, or may need extra help.
WREMO continues to advise people to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary due to debris and ongoing safety risks.
If you’re using public transport, allow extra time for your journey and check Metlink for service updates.
To report hazards on public lands, please ring Council on 04 527 2169
For life-threatening emergencies, please call 111
