Members of the Upper Hutt Roller Skating Club represented the region at the New Zealand Artistic Roller Skating Championships, held in Hawke’s Bay earlier this month.

Artistic roller skating combines the skill and precision of figure skating with dance and performance – all on roller skates.

A team of 19 club members competed across a range of disciplines, including figures, dance, free skating and show group. For 13 skaters, it was their first time competing at a national championship.

The team achieved some outstanding results, bringing home silver and bronze medals. More importantly, every skater performed with confidence and determination, supported one another throughout the competition, and enjoyed the experience of competing on the national stage.

The Upper Hutt Roller Skating Club offers Learn to Skate sessions for children and adults on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons at the St Patrick’s College Old Gym in Silverstream. Free trial lessons are available. For more information, visit the club’s Facebook page.
