Upper Hutt Petanque Club faced another challenge for the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy on Sunday 31st August 2025, from Kapiti Petanque Club. It was an extremely wet day, especially in the morning during play. Nevertheless 12 players took to the pistes and played 9 games of Petanque, 3 of singles, 3 of doubles and 3 of triples. Conditions were very trying for all players, including the home team, who do not practice in such conditions. At all times, players were needing to choose very carefully where to throw due to the increasing amount of puddles, and everyone was soaked by the end. However, Upper Hutt managed to prevail again, winning 6 games to 3, and therefore keep the trophy to face yet another challenge. The next challenger will be local club Silverstream, again at Maidstone Park. Upper Hutt’s team consisted of, Dave Gwerder, Brian Smith, Moises Burgos, Derek Worsley, Mary Khalil and Adrienne Gwerder.
