On Sunday 11th May 2025 (Mother’s Day), Upper Hutt Petanque Club hosted the annual Autumn Leaves Melee at Maidstone Park. Despite a few last minute changes in the entrance list, 33 players actively took part, including a couple of shared entries. Due to the uneven numbers, there was a single Bye for each round. 5 timed games at 50m each of Doubles were played, with partners and opposition teams being selected randomly, such that no-one plays with the same partner more than once. The weather was perfect for the time of year with brilliant sunshine all day, with a cool start and end. Play started at 09:30 and prize giving finished at 3:20pm.

The most unlucky person of the day was Mike Robinson (Upper Hutt) who took the consolation prize. 3rd place prize was won by Julian Teni (Upper Hutt), 2nd place by Dave Gwerder (Upper Hutt), and 1st place by John Prior (Masterton). Well done to all winners, and thanks to all players and the volunteer helpers who made the day go smoothly.
