Upper Hutt Petanque Club successfully defends the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy against Silverstream

Upper Hutt Petanque Club

Upper Hutt Petanque Club hosted a very strong challenge from Silverstream for the Jacques Cochonnet Trophy on Saturday 27th September, in warm and dry conditions for a change.

The two teams started the first round of games at 09:30. Upper Hutt took only 1 of the 3 games in the first round, and only another 1 in the second round, making it 2-4 at that point. This meant that Silverstream needed only 1 more win of the 3 games in the third round to take the trophy. The final round was climactic right up to the last boules of the last game which played into extra time, but Upper Hutt took all 3, making the final score of 5-4 to them, the 18th consecutive win for UHPC. The Upper Hutt team consisted of Colin Gooch, Mary Khalil and Adrienne Gwerder (Triples), Dave Gwerder and Derek Worsley (Doubles) and Brian Smith (Singles). The Silverstream team consisted of Claire Bradburn, Seymour Harawira and Theresa Harawira (Triples), Rachel Clarke and Graham Jackson (Doubles), and Brayden Harawira (Singles).

The next challenge is from Horowhenua to be held at Upper Hutt on Wednesday 22nd October.
