The Baine Trophy 2025 tournament was held on Sunday 7th September 2025 at Naenae Petanque Club. This tournament is played between Masterton, Upper Hutt, Silverstream and Naenae clubs, and was designed to encourage newer players to compete in more inter-club competition, without being too onerous regarding rules, and ensuring everyone has a good social day. The weather was mostly sunny and warm, and all the clubs were well represented, with 7 from Naenae, 6 from Upper Hutt, 5 from Silverstream and 4 from Masterton. 5 rounds of 50m doubles games were played, with alternative players allowed between games to involve as many players as possible. Upper Hutt especially had a good number of newer players, who were paired with more experienced players for guidance and encouragement. Scores were 2 points for a win, and 1 point for a draw. After all 5 rounds, The total scores per club were divided by the number of teams entered by that club, to obtain an average score per club. The club with the highest average is the winner. Naenae were placed 3rd, Upper Hutt were 2nd, and Masterton went home with the prized trophy, previously held by Upper Hutt for both 2023 and 2024. The majority of the Upper Hutt team for 2025 is shown in the photo, missing only Bev Plowman. Well done all players, and thanks to Naenae for hosting this year.
