About Us: Orienteering Hutt Valley is an orienteering club based in the Hutt Valley part of the Wellington region of New Zealand. Orienteering is a family of sports where you use a map and sometimes a compass to navigate courses on foot (and/or bike), over farm, forest or bush country, as accurately and quickly as possible. https://www.ohv.org.nz
Getting started
- Have a go anytime at the permanent courses at Harcourt Park. In partnership with Upper Hutt City Council, Harcourt Park has four map course options of different difficulty and distances. There is no cost to download a course and have a go. https://www.ohv.org.nz/permanent-courses/harcourt-park/
- The best way to get started with orienteering is to find out what events are happening nearby, turn up prior to the starting time, and at the registration desk advise that you’re new to the sport. They’ll let you know what course is most suitable, hire you any timing equipment, and give you some tips to get underway. See here for more details. https://www.ohv.org.nz/foot-orienteering/getting-started/ or https://www.orienteering.org.nz/events/
Join the club
The standard membership fee for adults (aged 21 or more as at 31st December of the membership year) is $30 per year. Juniors are $15 per year (unless school year 8 or below and part of a family membership — then the fee is zero). If it’s your first time ever joining an orienteering club then we offer 50% off for the first year. More details are at: https://www.ohv.org.nz/registration/
