Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients:

Meatballs:

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp dried tarragon (dill also works well)
  • 2 tsp ground allspice

Sauce:

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 3 tsp Dijon mustard (or American mustard)
  • 1 tbsp malt vinegar
  • 3/4 cup sour cream

Method:

  1. Combine all meatball ingredients, kneading the mixture ensure everything is thoroughly combined.
  2. In a large frying pan, fry the onion in a little oil until clear.
  3. Add the garlic salt and flour, and cooking for one minute while stirring continuously.
  4. Add the beef stock, mustard, and malt vinegar. Stir to combine.
  5. Place the meatballs in the sauce. Bring to the boil, and then simmer for 40 minutes.
  6. Stir in the sour cream, then serve.

Serve with rice, and a green vegetable or coleslaw.
