Savoury Cream Biscuits

The Upper Hutt Connection

The filling and biscuits can be given different flavours by substituting the garlic salt with other spices, and using other flavourings instead of the Parmesan.

Ingredients:

  • 125g butter
  • 1 tbsp icing sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Filling:

  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 50g butter, softened
  • 1 tsp – 2 tsp parmesan
  • 3 tbsp milk

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Cream the butter, icing sugar, and garlic salt together. Add the egg, and beat until well combined.
  3. Sift the flour and baking powder together, and beat into the creamed mixture. Knead with hands after beating to ensure all ingredients are properly combined.
  4. Roll out thinly on a floured bench and cut into desired shapes.
  5. Bake on greased baking trays for 10 minutes. Remove, then allow to cool for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  6. Once cool, sandwich the biscuits together with the following savoury cream filling.
  1. Soften the butter in a measuring jug, and then beat in half the milk powder, Parmesan, and the milk. Then add the other half of the milk powder and beat it until fully combined.
