People Focussed on Community Development – Lew Rohloff

Upper Hutt Greypower

Grey Power Upper Hutt Association Incorporated is rebuilding its voluntary advocacy team so as to ensure the voice of older people is effectively directed to enhancing community representations to councils and government; aimed at:

  • Endorsing, the ambitions of youth,
  • Relieving, the ‘cost of living’ crisis facing low to middle income families, and
  • Reducing, the impoverishment of older people who do not enjoy supplementary private income.

Your local Grey Power association, as an affiliate of Grey Power New Zealand Federation (GPNZF), has a recognised mandate to represent the ‘public interest’ with regard to local council’s operations, planning and revenue gathering activity. Similarly, it has an acknowledged dialogue with the Member of Parliament responsible for the Remutaka electorate on ensuring matters with nation-wide implication come to government notice during GPNZF’s periodic visits to ministerial offices in Wellington.

This valuable ‘platform for articulating responsible commentary’ on the social fabric of our community and nation is unique to Grey Power within New Zealand.

We are a self- funded, non-party political organisation with a rapidly ageing core membership. This trend requires us to appeal to our community for recently retired individuals to volunteer their energies and skillsets to maintaining our advocacy services in an increasingly complex future.

We have immediate vacancies for community oriented individuals with leadership attributes sufficient to ensure continuing capacity to collaborate with like-minded organisations which similarly prioritise the well-being of our community.

Have you recently exited the paid workforce and are ready to ‘give back’ to your community as a voluntary advocate for more opportunity for youth, a sustainable financial outlook for families and, for the older people of the Remutaka electorate, dignified participation within their community?

Could you passionately support a more socially inclusive community in Upper Hutt and wider New Zealand?

Do you have the personal skills to identify inadequacies in delivery of public services, conduct research related to available options and commit to promoting alternative policy in clearly articulated reports and submissions to local councils and central government?

This is a genuine opportunity to join a responsible and progressive organisation. Please contact us for further information at gpuh.membership001@gmail.com providing your name and ‘phone number.
