It’s great to see an article in The Post today informing the public on the indicative water costs which are coming. We are still unsure as to why Mayor Guppy could not and would not talk about these indicative costs during the recent annual plan and Local Water Done Well meetings. Mayor Guppy was asked on multiple occasions what the indication of costs to the community could be. For some time we have been highlighting the indicative costs of $7 a day from the Scott report (Oct 2024), but Mayor Guppy kept stating that it was out of their (Council) control and the new Water organisation would set the costs.
The only one from Council who gave any indication and guidance was Deputy Mayor Swales at the Facebook Live Let’s Korero where she advised that it was expected that the costs could go up to around $8000 a year which is near on $22 per day.
Cr Holderness, also at this Facebook Live event, indicated that there had been further modelling done, post the Scott report, but Cr Holderness has not been able to provide any of these numbers..
This was very saddening as to have some sort of indicative costs would at least help people to understand and to enable them to start to plan where to from here as early as possible.
We just hope that the article in The Post, will help our community to be able to plan for, what we believe, will be a tough time for many.
