Lower Hutt’s outgoing Mayor Campbell Barry says amalgamation on its way, like it or not? Who will decide, Central government or past and outgoing Mayors. What if we the voters and rate payers don’t like it? Is this what happens in a Trump type world? Elected representatives tell us what will happen even if voters don’t like it, the only hope we have is to try to influence the implementation of amalgamated. I am standing for council to oppose amalgamation to keep Upper Hutt’s, Local government. I have heard our current mayor say, “big changes are coming” Would he tell us what big changes are coming. Does he too think that amalgamation is on its way like it or not. Would other Mayoral hopefuls tell us if they think we will be amalgamated like it or not and do they like it or not? Why would they support or oppose amalgamation of Upper Hutt with either Lower Hutt or in a regional wide council. The time to answer the question is now if “Big changes are coming”.
