Whakawhirinaki Silverstream Pipe Bridge is officially connected to the drinking water network!
The cut-in works to bring the pipe bridge online wrapped up at midnight last Thursday after a massive 33-hour water shutdown, requiring careful planning and coordination.
The pipeline was recharged overnight, and valves restored the next morning. A huge shoutout to the project team and everyone involved for getting this work across the line.
Crews will now be focusing on pouring thrust blocks (concrete supports) around the pipe bends and reinstating the road surfaces. Final checks and adjustments will be made in the next couple of weeks.
Traffic management will be removed from SH2 at Silverstream by the end of this week, and from Fergusson Drive in early November.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as Greater Wellington and Wellington Water work to improve the resilience of our region’s water supply.
We’re almost there – stay tuned for an opening date! For more info on the project, click here https://www.wellingtonwater.co.nz/projects/silverstream-pipe-bridge-project
