Those of you heading in and out of Tōtara Park might have noticed a bit more activity recently.

This is all part of a project to replace the drinking water and wastewater (sewerage) pipes along the bridge. These new pipes provide drinking water to the community and transport wastewater from Tōtara Park, and they’re being designed to better withstand earthquakes.

Right now, crews are preparing the area by connecting pipework and manholes ahead of the main bridge works.

Here’s what to expect over the next couple of weeks:

• Traffic management will be in place just past the bridge before you enter Tōtara Park, including reduced speed limits and road widening works.
• There may be minor traffic delays.
• From today (3 August), some pedestrian walkways on and around the bridge will be temporarily diverted. Please follow the signage in place.
• We expect the traffic management to remain in place for around two weeks.

The work to replace the pipes directly underneath the bridge will take place later this year.
