
Upper Hutt-based community advocate and lyricist Dr Ramil Adhikari has been awarded Best Lyricist in the Sugam Sangeet category at Nepal’s prestigious 9th Rapti Music Awards, a nationally recognised honour celebrating excellence in music and culture.
The award was presented at a ceremony held in Kathmandu on Friday, where Dr Adhikari was recognised for his song “Aau Euta Bacha Garau”, which earned him the Best Lyricist title in the Sugam Sangeet genre. The song was also acknowledged multiple times during the programme, highlighting its national impact and popularity.
Although currently residing in Upper Hutt, New Zealand, Dr Adhikari was represented at the ceremony by Mrs Priya Karki, who graciously received the award on his behalf.
The awards event was held under the chief guestship of renowned Nepali artist Madan Krishna Shrestha. During the programme, celebrated singer Komal Oli was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Awards were presented across 42 categories, with Pramod Kharel receiving the award for Best Sugam Sangeet Male Singer.
Dr Adhikari’s achievement brings pride not only to Nepal’s creative community but also to Upper Hutt and the wider New Zealand Nepali diaspora, highlighting the global contributions of local residents across health, culture, and the arts.
