Upper Hutt well represented at King’s Award

John Burgess

This last weekend (6 Dec) saw three young men from Upper Hutt BB (formerly the Boy’s Brigade) honoured by the Governor General for achieving the Kings badge – the highest award available to our young men.

Nineteen young men and four young women from around the motu attended Government house on Saturday to be awarded their badges recognising their achievement, which included over 60 hours in each of three separate disciplines – (community service, cultural and recreation) as well as a week spent in winter at Nelson Lakes for a leadership development course.

Dan Phillips, Jason Little and Liam Stanford were the three who are a part of BB@LPC –that meets on Thursday evenings at Lane Park Church.

We have space for boys from eight to eighteen years old to join BB@LPC where we hope to build DIRT boys. ‘D’ stands for Discipline, where we use old fashioned drill, ‘I’ stands for Integrity, where we ask boys to “do what they say they’ll do”, ‘R’ is for Respect – for yourself and others, and ‘T’ is for tenacity – where we keep going even when its hard.

Our DIRT boys are grounded in the Christian faith, where we seek to help our young guys find their best selves reflected in God.
