A very Happy Birthday to the Upper Hutt Mobile Library, 50 years old today!

The service has seen several vehicles, paintjobs, and librarians in that time. This photo shows the bus in 1996. That year, a competition was held to design a mural for the bus. Mobile assistant librarian, Kerry O’Keefe, stands here with one side of the winning design.

To celebrate this milestone, a display is up in the heritage corner of the Central Library. Next time you’re in, pop by and have a look at a range of photos and ephemera from our library’s past.
