“The Last Post”
We are pleased to share the news that the “Last Post” has now been installed on our access stairs to Building #3. This marks the completion of what is needed for our Code Compliance Certificate and hopefully we get the sign off necessary to be able to call for our final inspection. There may be small adjustments to be made at this stage but we have our fingers crossed for a successful inspection.

Have we finished with establishing our new site at McLeod Park? By no means, we now start another big project to provide a metal working facility (Building #4). The new build will provide a 12 x 8 m space to house our metal working equipment most of which has spent a long time in storage. We are in the process of deciding upon a supplier for a kitset building – and yes, we will be building it ourselves! We also have to apply for a Building Consent.
We have had several set backs in the last few weeks, with unwelcome night visitors deciding we were better suppliers than Bunnings or Mitre10. We spent some time in reinforcing some of our outbuildings to make it more difficult for the casual “shopper” to fill their basket with what was not theirs and in the last week, they slipped up. Enough evidence was left behind for the Police to investigate and they managed to recover some of the items that were taken.
Community projects have been a little thin this month but we have completed another outside seat and table for a customer. (Thanks to Peter). A fun project was completed by Doug who made an Owl from scrap computer parts and it’s now ready to be framed.

Other projects on the books are an outside table for a local school, some toy repairs for a local kindy, and quite a few children’s puzzles with missing pieces. We also cleared a garage for a local resident who was moving to a care facility. The woodworking equipment was very welcome even if the wood lathe took 8 guys to move!
Another major project, to provide a very large model for a local deb’s ball, is in discussion but no final details are available at this time.
Finally, we need your help in trying to find a suitable new member to fill our Treasurer’s role who has stepped down from the position. So if you are reasonably good with numbers, can use Excel and Word, like a cup of tea and biscuit each day, can talk the hind leg of a donkey and would like to join a motley crew of well past it old geysers, we would love to hear from you! Even if you don’t like numbers and still want to join us, just come along @ 10am Tue to Fri for a cup of tea and a yarn.
A “thank you” to Mike at Upper Hutt Menzshed for sending this article to The Upper Hutt Connection.
