Last night it was an honour to recognise a very special milestone– the 100th birthday of our valued member, Henry Fawbert.

Henry was born in Yorkshire on the 20th of August 1925. During World War II he bravely served as a rear gunner in the Royal Air Force. In 1952 he made the move to Upper Hutt, where he later met and married Lois in 1955. Together they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage until her passing.

Henry’s life has taken him around the world – from running shoe stores back in Yorkshire, to returning to New Zealand in 1965 and enjoying a long career in aviation with NAC and later Air New Zealand.

He has also given much to the community through his passion for indoor bowls, first with the RSA and later here at the Upper Hutt Cossie Club. Since joining in 1997, Henry has been an active and loyal member, most recently with the Seniors.

Henry, reaching 100 years is an extraordinary achievement. On behalf of the Cossie Club, we wish you the happiest of birthdays and congratulate you on this remarkable milestone.

Please join us in congratulating and celebrating Henry on this special day.

This was the second celebration today at the club with the Seniors coming together to celebrate and share cake as well.

It was lovely for everyone to just stop for a moment, and even the staff all lined up to acknowledge Henry!

Happy birthday and best wishes from all of us!
