Last week the project team on the Te Mārua Water Treatment Plant Capacity Upgrade project celebrated a key milestone as the new Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) plant is now up and running.
The Te Mārua Water Treatment Plant is a critical infrastructure asset to Wellington region, providing about 45% of our region’s drinking water supply.
The DAF plant uses air bubble flotation to remove suspended solids, oils, and other contaminants from raw water. The Plant is now able to supply an additional 40 million litres of drinking water per day compared to when the DAF project started.
16 months in the making, the construction of the DAF wasn’t easy, especially while the Te Mārua Water Treatment Plant is still operating to deliver water to the region. Ka pai to everyone involved for the hard yards to reach this major milestone.
The project team is now working towards completing the filter refurbishment, upgrades to the powdered activation package (PAC) storage and dosing building by the end of the year.
This project is an vital step towards increasing Wellington’s water supply resilience especially for summer periods when water restrictions are in place.
Stay tuned for some Behind The Scenes footage of the construction of the DAF plant and some candid snaps!
