Riverstone Terraces resident Kris Sanderson will again open her garage on Betty Watt Grove as the suburb’s only voting place on November 7.
The voting place will operate from 9am to 7pm on election day and is one of more than 2300 voting locations nationwide.
Sanderson first offered her garage as a voting place in 2023 to provide a more accessible option for local residents. The nearest Upper Hutt voting place is not served by weekend buses.
Official Electoral Commission figures show 383 Remutaka electorate voters cast their ballots there in 2023.
Sanderson said residents had asked whether the garage would be used again and described it as a convenient option for the community. She will again work as an assistant at the voting place.
The Electoral Commission said voting place locations are selected based on factors including convenience, public transport access, availability, past voting patterns, political neutrality, security, and accessibility.
Political parties are consulted on draft voting place locations before they are finalised.
A total of 2694 voting places, including advance voting locations, will open during the voting period.
The Electoral Commission said voters can find voting place locations on its website or call 0800 36 76 56 for assistance.
