Renovation work starts on Maidstone Park grass fields, as thatch removal gets underway

Upper Hutt City Council

Renovation works have started on the Maidstone Park grass fields.

The Maidstone Park sand carpet fields are being stripped to remove a thatch* build up.

This involves removing approximately 20mm of the top surface, introducing some fresh sand and resowing with grass.

Once this is finished we kindly ask that the community stays off the surface to give the new grass time to grow.

The fields will not be available for hire until the end of December.

*Thatch is the layer of roots, leaves, and organic plant material that builds up in a lawn below the green grass and above the soil surface.
