New swingbridge connecting Akatarawa Forest Park and Birchville Dam & Cannon Point Trig opened Labour Weekend.

If you’ve been waiting for the new swingbridge in Akatarawa Forest Park to open, the wait is over!

The new swingbridge leading to Cannon Point Trig and Birchville Dam, opened last weekend for Labour Day. This new bridge makes crossing simple for people in wheelchairs or pushing a pram.

We’ve included a picture of the old bridge and Birchville Dam to jog your memories. This beautiful dam is only a ten minute flat walk from the new bridge. Perhaps it’s worth putting on the agenda this weekend?
