Mayor Wayne Guppy declares “conflict of interest” concerning the Upper Hutt Bowling Club, after being questioned

Upper Hutt City Council

At the Policy Committee meeting on Wednesday the 2nd of April, Mayor Wayne Guppy declared a “conflict of interest” with the deal for the long term lease of the land on Maidstone Terrace, after being questioned by the Operational Team of his potential conflict of interest. As patron of the club, it would be expected that Wayne Guppy would have declared this conflict of interest earlier, and not waiting until now, when the consultation is up to the voting stage, to state this conflict of interest.

Councillor Chris Carson declared his conflict of interest a while back, being an executive member of the club and took himself out of the discussions. It’s questioned why didn’t the mayor do this?
