Congratulations to Pepper the Cockatoo at Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Cafe, who has won Massey University’s Quote of the Year competition for 2024 with her “Hello Darling”. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon coming second place for his response during a radio interview “Let me be clear: I’m wealthy, I’m – you know – sorted.”

Pepper was stolen from Staglands last month and was back home a week later, after being handed into the Porirua police station.

Christopher Luxon congratulated Pepper on winning the competition saying “I warmly congratulate Pepper the cockatoo on her win”.

“Her story just strengthens my resolve to restore law and order in this country.”

Massey University’s Quote of the Year competition has been running for the past 14 years. This is the first time that it has been won by an animal.
