As we approach the reopening of H2O Xtream, we’re excited to share the latest developments and improvements. While some changes have been made to the original plans to keep costs manageable, we’ve ensured the facility is future proofed for further enhancements.
Commissioning/Testing and Opening Process: Bringing a facility like H2O Xtream online is a complex process. We anticipate it will take about five weeks to test and stabilise all systems. This includes priming pumps, ensuring the chlorine levels are correct, checking for leaks, and calibrating the plant. Filling the main and leisure pools takes three days and heating them to the right temperature can take up to a week. During this time, we’ll also be hiring and training staff to ensure a safe reopening. Please note that work is still ongoing in areas like the carpark, foyer, and changing rooms.
Key Budget Changes:
- Hydrotherapy Pool: Although the hydrotherapy pool was removed from the immediate upgrade to save costs, we’ve prepared the space for future installation by completing underground work and reserving a plant area. In the meantime, the junior leisure pool allows for limited hydrotherapy exercises.
- Cafeteria: To help manage expenses, the café has been removed from the project. However, we are exploring options for vending machines. There is currently an Expressions of Interest out, and power connections have been added to one of the carparks to allow for food trucks during events and on other occasions.
Spa, Sauna, and Steam Room Enhancements:
- The spa remains the same size but has been updated with new pumps, filtration, and heating systems.
- The sauna has been expanded, providing more space for relaxation.
- The steam room now boasts a new steam generator and upgraded plant systems.
Improved Filtration and Accessibility:
- Each pool now has a separate filtration system, meaning incidents in one pool won’t affect the others. The junior leisure pool and the main pool are no longer linked, reducing the impact of closures.
- We’ve also added accessibility features, including ramps and shallow access into the leisure pools, as well as a hoist for the spa and main pool. While space restrictions prevented a permanent ramp for the main pool, we’ve installed steps with handrails to improve access.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the grand reopening!
