Greater Wellington Regional Council goes on a tour of Kaitoke, Te Mārua, and the site for the new water storage lakes

Greater Wellington councillors and staff recently joined the team at Wellington Water on a site visit to key projects and the proposed site of the new storage lakes.

It was a great day full of learning and discussions. The team checked out the proposed site for the new drinking water storage lakes. The site is north of the Macaskill Lakes at Te Mārua and will be a key asset for safeguarding the future security of the water supply and looking after the environment by reducing the amount we need to take from the Te awa Kairangi | Hutt River when flows are low.

This new water storage project is currently in its early design and planning stage. It is estimated that once completed, these new lakes will be able to hold approximately 3,000 million litres of water.

The visits to Kaitoke and the Te Mārua Water Treatment Plant throughout the day also highlighted the impressive scale and progress made at each of the project sites.

Check out the snaps throughout the day of the team visiting various location, learning about the key infrastructure upgrade projects and taking a glimpse at the future of the region’s water infrastructure.
