“Give a Little” page set up to help support the family of Luke Smith

New Zealand Herald

A “Give a Little” page to help Luke Smith’s family has been set up by The Blackhouse, a group which runs a radio show on Saturdays and works to create “a dedicated space for African, African-New Zealanders, and the Black Diaspora in Aotearoa”.

The page has been set up to help his family cover the financial costs they will now be facing. These include the repatriation back to South Africa, funeral arrangements, legal proceedings, mental health support, and travel expenses.

A 29 year old boxer was earlier arrested and charged with wounding with reckless disregard for Luke Smith’s safety. Police said that further charges were possible. The defendant appeared in Wellington District Court on Monday, where he was granted interim name suppression.
