In every industry, there are names that rise above the rest, names that become synonymous not only with success, but with dedication, integrity, and a deep understanding of people. In real estate, the McArthur family stands as a testament to what happens when passion is passed from one generation to the next. Spanning years, the story of Tom McArthur, his son Mark McArthur and his granddaughter Michelle Andrews is a rare and powerful example of multigenerational excellence.

Tom McArthur entered real estate in the 1960’s, at a time where deals were made with firm hand shakes and community relationships were everything. He started building his career at Simpson Real estate, where Ralph Simpson was the licensee and Ralph and Tom developed a great friendship right in the same building where Bayleys Hutt Valley resides today. Tom quickly developed a reputation for honesty and perseverance. Whether helping young families buy their first homes or assisting local businesses with commercial space, he became the trusted name people recommended without hesitation. Tom didn’t just sell properties, he helped shape neighbourhoods. His principles became the cornerstone of what would eventually become the McArthur family legacy: treat clients like family, work harder than anyone else, and always be a student of the market. Tom started McArthur Real Estate in 1975 in Upper Hutt and Mark joined McArthur Real Estate in 1980, following his fathers footsteps and following the same principles Mark soon became an elected committee member of the Wellington district of the Real estate institute in the late 80s early 90s with two years as the president. In 2003 Mark was honoured by his peers and awarded a Fellowship of the institute. After Years of running McArthur Real Estate, Mark closed the business down and moved over to Tommys real estate, whom then became Bayleys Real Estate in November 2023. another Family run Business spanning the whole of New Zealand.

Michelle Andrews has now Joined Bayleys Upper Hutt. Michelle has known Real estate all her life, from going to open homes as child and listening to stories around the dinner table. Michelle is thoroughly enjoying the beginning of her career so far and has fitted in seamlessly into the Upper Hutt office. Our Upper Hutt team currently numbers eleven with five having joined in the past twelve months, giving us a vibrant team with a healthy mix of experience, age and gender.
