One of our favourite things? Helping tamariki (kids) and rangatahi (teens) explore the world of STEM through our awesome line-up of tech and science collections, resources, and events.

Parents, grandparents, teachers, learning support staff – if you have a curious young person in your family or class, here are our recommendations to nurture their interest in STEM:

Come along to STEM Explorers, our monthly after-school club for coding, engineering, design, cardboard creation and more.

Our collections cover lots of different fascinating topics: mechanical design, electronics, machinery, and robotics, all the way to fashion, textiles, and sustainable design.
…and we’ve saved one of the best resources for last: Fiero Code!

Fiero Code is a learn-to-code software for ages 8-18. With tutorials, projects, and challenges, it’s a fun learning playground, available for free with your Library Card.

Fiero Code is currently running a coding competition (open until 31 July): build a gallery website to showcase images and artwork of planets and stars, and be in to win!

One of our Upper Hutt participants, Nihal4ever, placed third in the 8-12 years category in the last competition. Could you be the next winner?
