Compost Month – Wrap-Up and What’s Next

Upper Hutt City Council

A big thank you to everyone who took part in Compost Month. It’s been fantastic to see the level of interest and energy across the community, with people of all ages getting involved to reduce organic waste and build better soil. The enthusiasm for composting has been clear, and it’s encouraging to see how many people are ready to make lasting changes.

But Compost Month was just the beginning. If you’re looking for more ways to cut down on waste and live more sustainably, there are some simple steps you can take from here.

One great option is to join one of Upper Hutt’s community gardens. It’s a chance to learn more about soil, compost, and how to grow your own food, meet others who care about sustainability, and spend more time outdoors.

Another step is to think about how much food waste can be avoided altogether. The Love Food Hate Waste website has some excellent tips and tools for planning meals, storing food properly, and using up what you have before it goes to waste.

And finally, if you’re looking for more mindful ways to shop, consider getting your fruit and vegetables from Wonky Box. They deliver fresh, tasty produce that might be rejected by supermarkets for not looking “perfect”—helping to reduce food waste at a much larger scale.

Thanks again to everyone who made Compost Month a success. If you haven’t already, complete our compost quiz at the link below to be in to win a compost bin, worm farm or bokashi bin. Let’s keep building on the momentum—one small action at a time.
