An average speed camera is to be installed on state highway 2 in-between Brown Owl and Te Mārua. These operate as a pair of speed cameras, measuring a car’s speed at the first one then again at the second – thereby calculating the car’s average speed.
NZTA doesn’t receive any income from the tickets from these cameras – it instead goes into the Government Consolidated Fund. NZTA took over responsibility for speed cameras from the police in July.
