Our Dorset Horn ram lamb, Alex, went on an important road trip recently, to the Tararua Breeding Centre to have semen collected for the Rare Breeds Conservation Society of New Zealand gene bank.
This work is part of a vital initiative by them to create an insurance policy for rare heritage livestock. So, if the worst ever happens, these precious genetics won’t be lost forever.
As a registered stud for Dorset Horned sheep, we are proud to play a role in protecting the future of this remarkable breed.
Conservation isn’t just about wildlife – it’s about safeguarding the living history in our paddocks too. So here’s to Alex, doing his part for the next generation.
