Ann Lockey

Ann Lockey

In Memory of Ann Lockey (nee Betty Barlow), who passed away on 21st August 2026.  Mother of Carol & Jill; grandmother of Aaron, Michelle, Craig (aka Ryan), Petra, Chaya & Quinn; great-grandmother of Britany, Damien, Heath, Mikaela-Rose, Jasmine, Stephanie, Zachery, Jordan, Mason & Lachlan; and great-great-grandmother of Braxton. Aunty Betty to Anne, Valerie, Steve & the late Norman & special mention to their families.

Her life was defined by an independent spirit, unwavering determination and a love of her garden, music, her old films, Christmas, chocolate and animals; especially dogs. Her working life was predominantly as a legal secretary, and she enjoyed searching her roots with genealogy & memories of her homeland, England. Ann, even in her 90s, kept ahead of politics and was a strong paper warrior when it came to fighting for the freedoms her ancestors fought and died for.

The extended family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful friends and neighbours who blessed her life with kindness, comfort, and companionship over the years: Sally & Jacqui, Doris, Tessa, Taffy, Juanita, Absie, Angela, Katherine, Stu, Kathy & Kevin, among others. To the retail assistants who “looked after her” and her podiatrist and long-serving doctor, whom she told how he was to look after her 🙂 To those special carers (that I met & won’t forget) at St Joseph’s and Ferguson Bupa Care; your care meant the world to her.

Rest in peace.

A “thank you” to Carol Wooley for sending this article to The Upper Hutt Connection.
