Barry Cappleman passes away, aged 91

KartSport Wellington

It is with great sadness that we advise the passing of Mr Barry Cappleman, aged 91.

  • President of the Mana Kart Club 1977-1978
  • Awarded the 26th Life membership of KartSport Wellington
  • Patron of Kartsport Wellington 2006-2019

Barry was instrumental along with Bill Picard, Gary Davy, Ray Sparks, and several others in the move from Duck Creek in Mana to the current KartSport Wellington site in Kaitoke.

His passion was such that not only did he race. So did Alan and his brother, and later he was able to watch and support his two grandsons.

At the end of his racing career, he was a stalwart in the starters box at Wellington and started Super Kart races at Manfield as well.

His passion in later life was in vintage karts where he rebuilt and owned a Devil chassis along with others. Although his pride and joy, an Australian twin engine!

He spent numerous hours raiding Stu Parks’ stock of old rotary parts to get the Komets and Parrillas running.

Barry had great life and did so many things, now is his time to have a well deserved rest.
