At last, we have a building consent for our new build. The process has been frustrating dealing with all the detail and additional requirements to allow us to proceed. However, we have overcome the issues and have finally received our building consent. Work has now started on laying the concrete foundations and we will take delivery of the kitset building sometime in October. 

The woodturning shed is now completed except for the final guttering and attachment to the storm water system. This will be completed when we complete the Metal Working shed to tie in with the earthworks needed at that time. However, we do intend to “top out’ the shed in the next few weeks and dedicate it to one of our founder members who passed away last year but left a bequest to the Menzshed so we could create this extra facility.  

Several projects have also been completed in the last few weeks.  

We were asked to provide an activity board for patients recovering from a stroke who find difficulty remembering how to operate such things as switches, plugs and latches etc. Doug made this from common items you may find around the house. 

We have also been busy with some furniture repairs (thanks to John). We often get broken or wobbly chairs in to see if we can restore them to their former glory. Here are two we have done recently.

We have been commissioned to manufacture a large batch of DOC200 traps used to control stoats, weasels and rats. This project involves making 160+ traps so it’s quite a large undertaking which will take several weeks to complete. With limited space and a short time frame, we have had to use up to 6 members each day to keep up to the schedule. There will be some sore arms and hands over the next week or so, but we will get there in the end!

Several Kindy’s have been in touch over the last few months, and we have completed many projects for them. We have contacted about half the Kindy’s in Upper Hutt but if you haven’t heard from us then shout out, we are always ready to listen.
