Menzshed Update – Oct 2025
We are planning an Official Opening during November, date to be confirmed which will also include a garage sale. This will include excess tools and a variety of other items which we have available for sale. This is planned as a two-day event, so we hope to have lots of customers pop in and see what’s on offer and where we are.
Website
The Website is now up and running thanks to Steve in Technical support who has put in many hours of hard graft to get there. We hope to keep improving the experience for both the members and the public at large.

Progress on relocating the garage has progressed, with the foundations being laid ready for the transfer later this year. John S has tirelessly beavered away to get everything in place so the concrete could be poured with the help of other members. We managed to get the concrete at a good price from Holcim and they also provided a morning tea! The weather was kind, and the pad was completed in a little over 3 hrs with help from a very talented neighbour, Hector who showed us his concreting skills.

We have managed a few customer projects, small and large during the last few weeks. Previously we mentioned a large “mystery” project which we were working on. This was kept under wraps as the item was a surprise centre piece for a Paris themed student ball. The item made was a 3-metre-tall model of the Eiffel Tower! Doug worked on this project for 4 weeks, constructing the item from recycled timber and CoroFlute Advertising board. It was made in 3 sections, bolted together to make transport easier and decorated with the steelwork being added by the customer. The result was “monumental”, and we were rewarded with a sumptuous morning tea and a generous donation for our funds.

On the small side we were asked to refurbish a model Steam Roller which had been out of action for many years. Some replacement parts were needed, which the customer sourced from overseas and Keiron completed the job – and a fine job he made too! Just like new!

Other projects completed were, a dining table cut down from 8 place to 4 place for a member, an old sewing machine converted to a side table and of course some more rat tunnels!

We are still on the lookout for new members. Maybe you have seen our display in the Mall which shows some of the things we do and who we do them. If you have and would like more info, contact us for a free tour and meet the team: contactus@upperhuttmenzshed.kiwi
If you want to join us, even for just a cup of tea and a yarn, pop in to see us, you will be more than welcome. Just come along @ 10am Tue to Fri. We are open 9 – 12 Tues to Fri. You will find us at McLeod Park just past the BMX track.
A “thank you” to Menzshed Upper Hutt for sending this article to The Upper Hutt Connection.
