MenzShed - The Upper Hutt Connection

What is the MenzShed?

It is a place to meet friends, provide purpose and contribute to your community through working on projects for a wide range of organisations including Council, charities, kindergartens and schools but also for family or just yourself.

Who can join?

Men of any age can join but it is primarily targeted at older men who have retired, have spare time, or just want to feel useful again. We have members from electricians to CEOs and we welcome all different personalities and backgrounds.  You don’t have to have to be an expert in anything, but over time you can learn skills from other members and put these to good use in community projects or your own “pet” project.

.How do I join?

Pop along any day Tuesday to Friday at 10am at our current location (see below) to share in our morning teas and to have a chat with us about the MenzShed and what is has to offer you. You will be most welcome.

What are the types of projects the MenzShed does?

We repair broken items, recycle items, complete projects big and small for many organisations in the Upper Hutt area. We have worked for many kindergartens, taken on projects for schools, charities, Council – Fire Service/Library/Expressions, Trentham Station, Upper Hutt Cat rescue, Pest free Upper Hutt, Silverstream Railway and Stokes Valley RSA to mention a few. Projects have been completed for individuals too many to mention.

We have recently reviewed our subscription. This now stands at $104 per year – where else can you get such value for $2/week? There are also options on how this can be paid.

What about the future of MenzShed?

The Menzshed officially started in June 2015 and now have around 50 members. We were accommodated in the Wallaceville Business Park in Ward Street prior to its demolition earlier this year. With no suitably sized premises available we were forced to accept a smaller place in Brown Street and having to store most of our equipment and stock. In late September the prospect of larger premises fell through and we are now back at square one. We have an option to create our new shed at McLeod Park, on Council land, either erecting a new building entirely or using relocatable buildings to achieve the same result. Either way we have a massive shortfall in funding such a project. Wheels are in motion to raise funds for our new shed but there is some way to go and we will be at Brown Street for some time to come.

If any or all of the above strikes a chord with you, why not contact us on 022 036 9601 or email us at secretary@upperhuttmenzshed.kiwi

You could always pop in to see us at 90A Mcleod Street – just drive past the BMX track to the car park.
