Wellington gets the show’s first New Zealand date, one night only. Sir El Tom plays the St James Theatre on Monday 9 November: two hours, fully live, every hit from Rocket Man to Your Song, the costumes recreated down to the glasses.
The man behind it is Tom Cridland. He learnt the piano during lockdown to get sober, playing Elton’s songs because they were what he loved, and within three years went from pubs to Carnegie Hall and London’s West End. He has been to more than a hundred Elton concerts as the guest of Elton’s drummer, Nigel Olsson, who has since played with the band three times. Tom’s autobiography, Million Dollar Addict, tells the story.
