New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) has awarded a $10k grant to Tui Glen School in Stokes Valley for 20 iPads and 20 Chromebooks, helping ensure all students have access to the digital tools they need for classroom learning, building digital literacy and sharing their progress with whānau.

Principal Jess Meates says “This project required a significant one-off investment that could not be met without external funding, so we applied to NZCT for financial support. These devices will provide access for our students to essential digital tools, ensuring all of them have the opportunity to develop critical computer skills.”

Tui Glen School provides technology directly to students rather than operating a bring-your-own-device scheme, helping ensure all learners have equal access. Senior students use Chromebooks to access Google Classroom, while junior students use iPads for learning apps and to share their progress.

A Year 4 student says, “I love learning StepsWeb on the iPad. It’s my favourite part of the day.”

A Year 8 student adds, “We use the Chromebooks to complete our work in Google Classroom each day. We are so lucky that we now have enough for everyone to complete their work!”

NZCT General Manager of Grants, Marketing and Communications Ben Hodges says, “We’re pleased to support a project that gives every student fair access to the digital tools they need to take part fully in classroom learning and build skills for the future.
